What to Pack for a Perfect SUP Lake Day
A great lake day doesn't happen by accident. It's the result of good planning, the right gear, and a board that doesn't let you down when you're miles from the shore.
🎒 The Essentials: Don't Leave Shore Without These
🏄 Your Board & Paddle
One of the best things about an inflatable SUP? You can inflate it anywhere — at home, in the parking lot, or right at the water's edge. Just give yourself 5–10 minutes (or under 5 with an electric pump) so you're ready to launch the moment you hit the shore.
🎒 Dry Bag / Waterproof Bag
Everything goes in a dry bag — phone, keys, wallet, snacks. The water doesn't care how careful you are. A wave, a wobble, or a curious dog can send anything overboard. Our waterproof bag (included in the Build Your Summer Setup Bundle) clips directly to your board's cargo bungee system.
🔗 Leash
Non-negotiable. If you fall off — and everyone does eventually — your leash keeps your board from drifting away. Use a coiled leash for flatwater to avoid drag.
☀️ Comfort & Sun Protection
Water reflects UV rays, effectively doubling your sun exposure.
Reduces glare and helps you see into the water clearly.
More comfortable than reapplying sunscreen every hour.
Wind happens — a regular hat won't stay on.
Protects your feet on rocky launches and landings.
🍉 Food & Hydration
You'll burn more calories than you expect. Pack smart:
- At least 2L of water per person for a half-day session
- High-energy snacks: trail mix, energy bars, fruit
- A soft cooler that sits on your board's rear cargo area
- Reusable containers — leave no trace on the water
🏕️ Level Up: The Full Lake Day Setup
If you're planning a longer session — or want to turn your lake day into a floating base camp — these add-ons make all the difference:
Anchor it mid-lake for a social hub, sunbathing deck, or stable fishing platform. The game-changer for group lake days.
Converts your SUP into a sit-down kayak for relaxed, low-effort cruising.
Hands-free fishing with a cold drink within reach. For the anglers who refuse to compromise.
Because losing a fin mid-trip is a real thing that happens. Always keep a spare.
🛡️ Safety First
- Check the weather before you go — afternoon thunderstorms are common in summer
- Tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back
- Know your local regulations — some lakes require PFDs on board at all times
- Paddle with a buddy when possible, especially in open water
